It’s all go at Vallum Farm and Tea Shop in the Tyne Valley, where there’s a new ice cream flavour and lots of activity on the four-acre veg patch.
First to the ice cream, and the 20-plus flavours made from the milk of owners Vicky and Peter Moffitt’s brown Swiss cows have been joined by a fabulous new bannoffi flavour, which is proving a potential rival to Vallum’s current customer number one, lemon meringue, which is made with home-made lemon curd.
Famed specialist veg producer Ken Holland also has a four-acre plot at Vallum where he uses the Moffitts’ vintage Fergie tractor to move his produce, which is used by Michelin-starred chefs, up and down the field.
His produce is also used in the Vallum farm tea room and Ken is planning to start Saturday morning pick-your-own veg sessions, so keep your eye on the Vallum website and Twitter feed for news of that.
Meanwhile, on Vallum fete day, Sunday August 14, there will be an open day at the veg patch and an open kitchen on the field selling dishes made with Ken’s produce and produce from Bywell Smokery, which also has a base there.
