Baristocracy Coffee is offering the chance to learn about the speciality coffee industry in East Africa from Omwani founder Jim Wilkinson, and taste some spectacular coffee, on April 15 11am-1.30pm.
From Tree to Cup – Speciality Coffee Production in East Africa will explore the growing process, and look at the unique challenges growers face and how they are supported to grow their businesses with green exporter Jim.
Jim will also discuss Omwani’s growth, his experiences, partnerships with coffee growing communities, and some of the features that set East African coffees apart.
Following Jim’s talk, Baristocracy’s Alex Forsyth will host a cupping of several East African coffees. Attendees will learn a sensory vocabulary as part of the session, adding to their tasting skills and discovering the variety of flavours and sensory experiences coffee has to offer.
Baristocracy’s Kate Hudson said: “We’re very proud to be part of the speciality coffee industry. However, roasters are just one element in a complex process linking growers and co-operatives all over the world, green bean exporting companies and, of course, all of us who buy and love coffee.
“We’re looking forward to hosting Jim in the roastery and him sharing his experience with a new audience.”
No prior knowledge is required to take part in the event and the session will be followed by nibbles and the chance to chat with Jim and Alex about all things coffee. Profits from the event will go to support Omwani projects in coffee growing communities.
