Fraser Cameron wins Legacy Scholarship award

Fraser Cameron

Fraser Cameron, head chef at 1610 at The Globe Inn, won the first Legacy Scholarship at the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards.

The new award was established to honour the first Michelin Guide ceremony in Scotland, recognising an exceptional up-and-coming chef with a passion for Scottish produce and a commitment to the nation’s culinary future.

As the scholarship recipient, Cameron will embark on a five-day stage at the Ritz Hotel in London, where he will be mentored by South Shields-born executive chef John Williams MBE.

“It is an absolute honour to have won this scholarship,” said Cameron – who has cultivated strong relationships with local producers and played a vital role in developing the Comlongon Kitchen Garden – which supplies seasonal ingredients to his restaurant and Annandale Distillery.

“Opportunities like this are incredibly rare, and to have won this inaugural award fills me with so much pride. The chance to learn and grow in a business that is not only a leader in food but in sustainability, passion, refinement and elegance, is crucial for my personal development.

“This scholarship opens up the opportunity to share what I learn with my team and the next generation of young talent, all while being an ambassador for Scotland Food & Drink. It truly is a once-in-a-lifetime, money-can’t-buy opportunity.”

Jonathan Brett, head of cuisine for Annandale Distillery Group, added: “The entire team is incredibly proud of Fraser. Watching his growth and development in his role has been fantastic. This scholarship is a monumental opportunity, providing an experience that will not only elevate his own career but will also bring a new level of knowledge and expertise back to our kitchens at 1610 at The Globe Inn. We know he will make the most of this truly massive opportunity.”
