TV chef bringing kids cookery workshops to Sunderland

TV chef, author and former MasterChef contestant Matei Baran is bringing a series of free cookery workshops for kids to Sunderland this summer.

The educational workshops will take place on selected Mondays during the school holidays.

Matei – who owns Posh Street Food in STACK Seaburn and Posh Pop Ups – will be delivering the workshops and showing kids that healthy cooking doesn’t need to be boring.

Inspired by Matei’s weight-loss journey in 2019 and following the success of his Big Chef Mini Chef book – which is dedicated to his son, Armin – the workshops will take place on July 25; August 8, 15 and 25; and September 5 at STACK Seaburn from 10am-11am. Bookings can be made via the Chef Matei Baran Facebook page. One adult is required to stay with the children at all times, and a maximum of 10 kids aged 6+ can take part in each workshop.

“Based on the interest so far, we plan to run a lot more of these in the future,” said Matei. “With the economy as it is at the moment it’s more important than ever to cook from scratch and, as the workshops are free, parents don’t need to stress about the costs.

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming the children to what promises to be an action-packed and fun-filled series. If kids learn to grow and cook things, they will be more likely to eat them. Cooking is a life skill and healthy eating matters.”
