When the sun finally decides to grace us with its presence here in the North East, we must get out and enjoy new food and drink spots. As well as those close to home, there are a few a little further afield which are well worth a trip out.
First up, summer at the Tipi at The Tempus is back. In the grounds of The Tempus hotel in the Charlton Hall Estate, think festival vibes without the mud. Here you’ll find wood-fired pizzas, delicious cocktails, and awesome live music to enjoy while the sun sets. I’d recommend staying at the hotel for a dreamy Northumberland escape with stunning rooms and a beautiful breakfast.
Meanwhile, in Gateshead, Savour Bakery on Coatsworth Road is turning heads with its artisan pastries and treats. Sourdough loaves, delicate sweet treats and the most amazing stuffed savoury croissants are all highly recommended. The addition of the window into the bakery area means you can watch the magic happen. Get there early – once those croissants have gone, they’re gone!
Finally, a trip to Ad Gefrin should be at the top of your list of adventures. The beautifully curated Anglo Saxon-inspired distillery has launched an amazing menu in its bistro – Bēodern. It was a real highlight when attending an awesome new Meet the Makers Triple A Food Tour – which also comes highly recommended if you’re up for a day exploring Northumberland. Bēodern’s menu features dishes inspired by North East heritage which are paired perfectly with a dram or two of the signature whisky – Tácnbora.
