International flavours on the menu for Sunderland Restaurant Week

Sunderland Restaurant Week begins Saturday March 4 with cafés, bars and restaurants serving food from across the globe taking part.

The event – which is organised by Sunderland BID, supported by Sunderland City Council, and sponsored by Bradley Hall – will see venues across the city offer menus for £10, £15 and £20. For the full list of participating venues visit www.sunderlandbid.co.uk/restaurant-week/ – where you can also download the vouchers required to be part of the event.

Indian food is always popular during the week and foodies can try street food at Chilli Mangoes and My Delhi, or more traditional favourites at Spice Empire, House of Punjab and Chesters Lounge.

Meanwhile, Asian food fans can try out Asiana – always one of the most popular Sunderland Restaurant Week destinations – House of Zen and the recently opened Buddha Beat.

Italy is represented by award-winning Angelo’s Ristorante, Roman Italian and Venice Italian, while there are plenty of imaginative modern bistro offerings. There are also lots of tried and tested favourites to visit – including Victors, The Peacock, The Old Vestry and Tarantino’s.

Cafés across the city and beyond will also be taking part in the week – which runs until March 12 – including Sweet Petite and Crumb On In.

Sharon Appleby, chief executive of Sunderland BID, said: “Sunderland has an exciting and fast-growing food scene and the participants in this Restaurant Week really reflect that. There are around 50 establishments signed up to take part, so there really is something for everyone.”
