Grainger Delivery reaches £1m milestone

Grainger Delivery reaches £1m milestone

Grainger Delivery – the delivery service launched in 2020 to bring the best of Newcastle’s historic Grainger Market to people’s homes – has passed £1m in orders and served its 30,000th customer.

Created to offer deliveries from the 185-year-old market across the North East, the service started as a Facebook post on March 23, 2020 and has grown to offer more than 2,000 products – supporting more than 20 businesses and delivering food to more than 30, 000 customers. Today the service reaches from Northumberland to Durham, delivering produce from the market’s bakers, butchers, fishmongers, retailers and more six days a week.

Created by Emma-Claude Blair-Phillips, owner of The French Oven, and Craig Wilde of creative agency Niltoni 360º, Grainger Delivery brings together the market’s traders with a team of volunteers and staff, as well as support from Newcastle City Council and NE1, Newcastle’s Business Improvement District company. Logistics is now led by Emma-Claude’s brother Darren-Pierre and supported by their father John, along with a team of delivery drivers.

Emma-Claude said: “We are all very proud of all the hard work our family, staff, friends and colleagues in the market have achieved. There are so many people who have been positively affected by our efforts, from all parts of our region and we’ve been continually humbled by the gratitude in the feedback we have received.”

Craig added: “Grainger Delivery is a great achievement and I’m sure in no small part has contributed to the Grainger Market’s survival well into the future. Grainger Delivery isn’t a faceless giant automated warehouse, it’s a community driven enterprise at the heart of the city, run by local people with local businesses, supporting Newcastle and the North East; continuing to contribute to make it the outstanding and canny place it is.”

John, chairman of the Newcastle Market Traders Federation, said: “The camaraderie, the diligent support and tireless efforts of the market, its traders, Newcastle City Council, NE1 and our partners at Niltoni 360º would be outstanding at any time, but during a global crisis of this magnitude, unseen outside of peacetime, is beyond what anyone could have imagined. As we wrestle with what we hope will be the nation’s third and final lockdown, we are confident our traders and market have a positive future beyond the pandemic, thanks in no small part to Grainger Delivery.”

In February, Grainger Delivery will launch its latest website with new services and a new look, take a look at www.GraingerDelivery.com
