Summer lovin’

Things are heating up for summer and there’s plenty of new openings and exciting pop-ups to check out.

First, Fenwick is hosting the team from Michelin-starred restaurant Hjem for eight weeks. This unique event will showcase a delectable array of dishes and wine pairings – and I got a sneak peek on opening night, when the menu featured beautiful salads, mouthwatering duck frites and classic desserts with a twist.

Meanwhile, street food favourite Thali Tray has a new home after opening its doors in Sandyford. Having started off down the road on Stepney Bank, the colourful Indian street food restaurant has gone from strength to strength – branching into brunch and their own bar favourites. Belly pork vinaldoo, paneer makhani, naans and pickles are all brilliant and match up perfectly with a mind-boggling clarified mango lassi.

Finally, if you’re in Newcastle for a pre-dinner tipple, WC Bar has a new spring/summer cocktail menu to whet your appetite. Situated inside the old gent’s toilets in the Bigg Market, the unique cocktail and wine bar has become a firm favourite. Whether you’re looking for a refreshing berry and lychee martini to cool off or celebrating with a Champagne French 75, there’s something for everyone and every occasion.
