Big Mash-Up: The Next Fermentation returns January 30-31 to mark Steam Machine Brewing Company’s 11th year – bringing together a mix of small-batch, collaborative and barrel-led beers that rarely appear on public taps.

Across the weekend, more than 30 beers will be pouring – including eight Steam Machine beers, a curated range of guest breweries, and a dedicated Fellowship of Beer bar showcasing releases that are usually only available to members of the brewery’s subscription community.

The Fellowship beers include a honey braggot aged in an Irish whiskey barrel, a beetroot saison matured in a Spanish Rioja barrel, and a recreation of Brunswick Mumme brewed with wild botanicals based on 19th Century descriptions before being aged in a brandy barrel.

Alongside these will be a wide spread of Steam Machine’s own beers – from barrel-aged imperial stouts and smoked porters through to West Coast IPAs, tank-poured pilsners and fruit beers, plus a small selection of winter styles from across Europe and the UK.

Big Mash-Up is designed as a working-brewery festival rather than a generic tap takeover, with the brewing team behind the bar throughout the weekend and an emphasis on beers that sit outside standard production lines.

The festival takes place at Steam Machine Brewing Company in Newton Aycliffe on the evenings of Friday January 30 and Saturday January 31.
