Work is set to begin on transforming a Sunderland city centre site into pan-Asian restaurant The Muddler.
The green light has been given to plans for The Muddler to occupy a unit at Keel Square, with the developers confirming the fit out is due to begin in May with the 150-seater restaurant and cocktail bar set to open this summer.
Known for its high-end take on Pan-Asian cuisine, creative cocktails and luxe interiors, The Muddler has built a loyal following on Tyneside ahead of its opening in Sunderland. The new venue promises to bring the same moody glamour, sleek décor and indulgent flavours that made its Grey Street location a go-to for foodies and cocktail connoisseurs. The Muddler Sunderland is expected to feature a vibrant mix of sushi, bao, robata grills and signature cocktails – and the development includes an outside seating area with parasols, plants and greenery with space for up to 110 people.
Neill Winch, chief executive of Danieli Group which owns The Muddler brand, said: “Sunderland is a city on the rise, with exciting developments reshaping the city centre and breathing new life into the high street. We’re proud to be part of that transformation by bringing The Muddler to the heart of the city. As a brand, The Muddler is all about quality, atmosphere and experience – and we believe it will complement the bold, ambitious direction Sunderland is heading in.
“This opening represents more than just expansion; it’s about being part of a wider story of regeneration and helping to create vibrant, thriving places for people to enjoy.”
