Veeno Italian Wine Bar & Kitchen has proven to be a popular addition to Durham’s Riverwalk development.
Since opening in September, Veeno has welcomed thousands of visitors who have enjoyed the venue’s Italian hospitality, hand-stretched pizzas and sharing boards as well as tasting experiences. One of the most popular experiences has been A Trip to Sicily – a guided tasting journey through Veeno’s exclusive selection of wines produced by founder Nino’s family vineyard in Marsala.
Franchise owners Dan and Donna Lewis, who brought the brand to Durham, said they’ve been overwhelmed by the response.
“We knew Veeno would bring something special to the area, but the support has exceeded all expectations,” said Dan. “From locals to students and visitors from further afield, everyone has really embraced the concept.”
“We wanted to create a space where people can slow down, share food and make memories – just like they do in Italy,” added Donna. “Seeing so many happy faces walk through the door each day has been incredible.”
Veeno was founded by Sicilian-born entrepreneur Nino Caruso, whose family vineyard supplies the wines served at the brand’s venues nationwide. These are served alongside wines from carefully selected, independent, Italian wine producers.
“We’re incredibly proud to see Veeno thriving in the North East,” said Nino. “Durham has such a vibrant, welcoming spirit and it’s wonderful to see people here enjoying the fruits of our family’s vineyard. This success shows there’s a real appetite for genuine Italian experiences – and we’re excited for what’s to come.”
As the festive season approaches, Veeno has launched its Christmas menus, bringing a taste of Sicilian celebration to Durham – with the £30 set menu offering three courses and a Christmas cocktail.
“Christmas is all about coming together over good food and wine – and that’s what Veeno is all about,” added Donna. “We wanted to create something that feels both festive and authentic, so guests can enjoy a true Italian Christmas right here in the city.”
