Three of the North East’s best named in Harden’s UK top 100

Three of the region’s finest restaurants have been included in the 2023 Harden’s Guide.

The North East restaurants on the list, published in the 32nd edition of the guide, are led by Michelin-starred Pine, East Wallhouses, Northumberland in 10th place. Northumberland’s Hjem is in 15th place, while Newcastle House of Tides is in 43rd place.

Harden’s is the only UK restaurant guide sold in bookshops based on feedback from normal diners rather than professional inspectors. A total of 30,000 reports were submitted from a survey of 3,000 diners for this year’s guide.

Restaurants at all price levels are listed – from street food vendors to the country’s most ambitious dining rooms, with 2,800 restaurants listed in total.

Pine’s chef patron Cal Byerly (pictured above (right) with Ian Waller) and front of house manager and co-owner Sian Buchan said: “What an amazing start to 2023, we can’t say how much this means to every one of us in the team. Last year was off the scale and to start the year in this way alongside some of the UK’s top restaurants, including the likes of Andrew Fairlie, Gleneagles Hotel, Auchterarder (1), Core by Clare Smyth, London (5), and L’Enclume, Cartmel (8) is amazing!

“Being listed at number 10 is huge for us, especially as Harden’s is diner led, which means that it represents a true reflection of how people receive what we try to deliver for every one of our guests and also recognises the hard work of every member of the team in the restaurant as we strive to improve and evolve on our journey.”

The 32nd edition of Harden’s guide is priced at £18.99 and is available from bookshops across the country. It is also available in app format for Apple and Android. For more information visit www.hardens.com
