The Great Taste Awards are the Guild of Fine Food’s hallmark of quality, championing the best artisan and specialty produce in the world with their distinctive black and gold seal of approval. A raft of new awards have been doled out, with over 60 award-winning entries coming from the North East.
Products are marked for their taste, appearance, aroma and texture; a three star award is a mark of ‘exquisite and extraordinary’ taste, and has been handed to Love Popcorn’s chocolate orange popcorn, ManiLife’s original roast smooth peanut butter, Hammond Charcuterie’s wild venison saucisson sec and Baristocracy Coffee’s limited edition Colombia decaf coffee (although it’s currently unavailable to purchase, the rest of their range is top-notch too!).
The region’s two star awards include accolades for Morwick Dairy’s raspberry ripple ice cream, First & Last Brewery’s plum/fruited Belgian ale, Doddington Dairy’s Doddington, Berwick Edge, Cuddy’s Cave and Capability Brown cheeses, Alnwick Rum’s Holy Island spiced rum and Savour Bakery Café & Patisserie’s butter croissant.
Among the one star ‘simply delicious’ awards were Ad Gefrin’s Flýte whisky cream liqueur, Di Meo’s Amaretto di Saronno gelato, sweet mince Christmas pie gelato and Hugo spritz sorbet, Nicholsons Butcher’s old English pork sausages and Northumbrian Pantry’s scotch bonnet chilli relish, among many others.
