Staith House is back

Following the closure of The Staith House gastropub earlier this year, the team has popped up at By The River Brew Co’s HWKRMRKT street food market on the banks of the Tyne.

Staith House Fish House opened in late-November and will initially be part of the HWKRMRKT until spring 2022 – though plans for a longer stay are in discussion. The menu will change daily with a focus on fresh, local fish and shellfish – from Lindisfarne oysters with various dressings to fish and chips, fish curries and hearty soups for the winter months.

John Calton – who runs Staith House Fish House and Newcastle restaurant Route alongside wife Kimberley and business partner James Laffan, said: “Getting setup on the quayside was really a happy coincidence and all started with a conversation as we were leaving the pub. A few months later we’re in place and looking forward to sharing our food with people again.

“The food at the Fish House will be seasonal and focussed on the things we like to cook and eat. It will develop as we learn more about our place in the HWKRMRKT and we try some exciting ideas. The location is brilliant, we really like the relaxed vibe down there, and we’re excited to see how things develop.”

Staith House Fish House is open Friday 5pm-10.30pm, Saturday midday-10.30pm and Sunday midday-5pm at The River Brew Co’s HWKRMRKT street food market.
