Heaton-based Anarchy Brewery has been saved from closure following a takeover by a group of North East-based hospitality figures.
Anarchy Brewco Ltd went into administration on August 1 having been hit by debts incurred during the pandemic and the failure of some customers to pay their bills.
Its assets have now been purchased by a consortium of investors, including Northern Bar Management Ltd, Kleo Tabaku of acclaimed restaurants Lovage and Osters, and a private investor.
Along with securing the future of the brewery, the move by the new company – Anarchy Beers Ltd – has saved the jobs of the existing 12-strong workforce. The takeover has also ensured continuity of supply of all Anarchy beers and the brewery’s regular contracts.
Northern Bar Management’s portfolio already includes some of the region’s most popular venues – such as The Blackbird at Ponteland and The Northumberland Arms at Felton. The company is also behind Newcastle’s Claremont Teahouse and Dot Bagels.
The new company plans to draw on Kleo’s expertise to introduce an innovative food offering in the brewery’s tap room event space.
A spokesman for Anarchy Beers Ltd said: “The team is delighted to have been able to save this amazing brand with its knowledgeable and dedicated team. We aim to build on its excellent reputation and ultimately build Anarchy into a significant force in the craft beer scene.”
