With the Christmas season fast approaching, three of Newcastle’s most celebrated restaurants – Khai Khai, Dabbawal and DOOD – have announced festive menus offering far more than turkey and all the trimmings.
The festive lineup at Khai Khai focuses on fire and finesse. The Festive Menu (£70pp, available November 28-December 24) includes dishes such as Malwani Lamb Chops, Tandoori Broccoli, Mangalorean Prawn Stew, and Shiitake Butter Chicken. Vegetarian Festive Menu highlights include Malwani Paneer and Shiitake Paneer Butter Masala. Each menu comes with Christmas crackers and a bottle of house wine per group of six. For New Year’s Eve, the Khai Khai team will be turning up the heat with a sharing feast (£75pp) featuring Lucknowi Lamb Chops, Scallop Moilee, Tandoori Chèvre Chicken, and the striking Gilded Gajar dessert – plus glasses of bubbly and cocktails.
Meanwhile, Dabbawal will bring its signature energy to festive dining with a Festive Sharing Menu (£42pp, available November 28-December 31) built for celebration. Expect plates such as Afghani Murgh Tikka, Pistachio-Crusted Lamb Boti, Old Delhi-style Butter Chicken, and Turkey Pepper Fry – served alongside a glass of prosecco on arrival and festive crackers. Vegetarian guests are well catered too – with a vibrant selection of meat-free dishes full of flavour and spice.
DOOD will bring a touch of Middle Eastern warmth to the festive season on the Quayside. Its Christmas Menu (£70pp) offers a sharing-style experience inspired by Persian hospitality and featuring dishes such as Chicken Dolma, Saffron Monkfish and Kabab Koobideh followed by Baklava with Pistachio Ice Cream. For New Year’s Eve (£75pp), guests can expect a lavish Levantine celebration with Harissa Chicken Wings, Ahvazi Lamb Stew, and Saffron Monkfish – served with a welcome glass of bubbly and a signature cocktail.
