Kenny Atkinson named Chef of the Year in The Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards

Newcastle’s Kenny Atkinson has been named Chef of the Year in the annual Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards, as Ynyshir in Wales was named the UK’s best restaurant for a second year in a row.

The North East is well represented in the list of the UK’s best places to eat, with Pine leading the pack in sixth. Meanwhile, Kenny’s second Newcastle restaurant, Solstice, claimed 17th place with his first, House of Tides, in 23rd. This list also includes Hjem in 63rd place, and the region’s only two Michelin star restaurant, The Raby Hunt, in 82nd place.

The winners were announced on June 12 at a ceremony held at The Hurlingham Club in London. The full list of the UK’s Top 100 Restaurants can be found at www.nationalrestaurantawards.co.uk

The Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards is Restaurant’s annual countdown of the top 100 restaurants in the UK as voted for by the UK’s leading chefs, restaurateurs and food writers.
