grate and Pine to team up for a grate afternoon on August 31

Chefs from Restaurant Pine will join forces with cheese experts from Jesmond cheesemonger grate to celebrate Great British cheese on Sunday August 31.

This pop-up experience, which will take place noon-3pm, will feature a menu of three cheese-based snacks designed and prepared by Pine’s Cal Byerley and Ian Waller. Each bite-size creation will shine a spotlight on one of Britain’s world-class cheeses – selected by grate’s Moz Murphy – paired with seasonal, local ingredients.

The exclusive snack menu includes – Beetroot, Doddington Cheddar & Walnuts; Parsnip, Goat’s Cheese, Verbena & Caramel; and Sourdough, Baron Bigod & Pine’s House Pickles.

Tickets are £25 per person and can be reserved here.

Each dish champions a standout British cheese, chosen from grate’s curated selection of more than 70 artisan cheeses.

To enhance the experience further, Vanessa Stoltz, Pine’s head sommelier, will be on-hand to pour a selection of wines by the glass, which guests can purchase from the shop counter. Each wine is grown and produced entirely in the UK, and has been chosen to complement the cheese-based snacks.

“I’m thrilled to be hosting our very first grate afternoon,” said Moz. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to introduce guests to some of the UK’s most exceptional cheeses in a fun and accessible way, with the added flair of Pine’s imaginative and thoughtful cooking. This event is all about celebrating the richness of British produce, and cheese lovers are in for a real treat.”

Ian, head chef at Pine, added: “grate is such a brilliant shop – it’s a treasure trove for anyone who loves cheese. We’re all excited about working with Moz and the team to create something special for this event. Expect bold flavours, clever pairings, and a little Pine magic.”
