Following on from the success of Newcastle Wine Week in June, the first Durham Wine Week is set to take place October 10-19 – offering an opportunity to explore the city’s vibrant wine scene.

The city-wide celebration, which will bring together some of the best venues in Durham, has been created by Leah Newman of Newcastle-based wine retail and events company Whispering Wine and is supported by Durham BID and City of Durham Parish Council.

Wine enthusiasts will be able to purchase a Durham Wine Week wristband at www.durhamwineweek.co.uk – giving them 50% off a handpicked selection of wines at venues across the city.

Venues including FIIK, Coarse, Veeno and Crush are among the participants, and each venue has collaborated with Leah to create a bespoke Durham Wine Week List.

“This is about making great wine more accessible and celebrating the brilliant hospitality scene we have in Durham,” said Leah. “We want to shine a light on the diversity of wine culture in Durham while highlighting the positive progression of current wine offerings in the city. The wristband allows people to explore new tastes and old favourites at a fraction of the cost while exploring venues they may have never been to. With a wide array of venues and wine varietals to enjoy, Durham Wine Week promises to be a toast-worthy addition to the city’s cultural calendar.”
