Blackfriars to host first Christmas market Nov 30-Dec 1

Blackfriars

Newcastle’s Blackfriars will host its first Christmas market November 30-December 1 – with the best local food and drink set to take over the Cloister Garden.

Set within the grounds of a 13th Century Dominican friary, the market will showcase local artisans and producers including Appetite columnist Daisy Turnell from Craft Beer Newcastle – selling her first-ever collaboration beer brewed with Steam Machine and Salford Beer Festival. She’ll be joined by Elvet Cider, Ad Gefrin, Hepple Spirits, St Dominic’s Brewery, and the Whitley Bay Wine Guy.

Blackfriars will also be serving mulled wine, mince pies, hot chocolate and Christmas cocktails along with a barbecue of hot roast sandwiches and festive street food. There’ll also be stalls selling gifts, and Ryton Singers will entertain visitors with Christmas carols on Sunday.

Rebecca Armstrong, general manager at Blackfriars, said: “Blackfriars was once a medieval hub of trade and community, and our goal has always been to transform the 780-year-old Cloister Garden into a vibrant, accessible space for everyone to enjoy. Seeing the Cloister Garden brought to life with our Christmas market is an exciting new development and we look forward to meeting new customers and getting in the festive mood.”

The event will take place 10am-4pm on both days, and visitors can just turn up without booking. For more information visit the events page at blackfriarsrestaurant.co.uk
