Blackfriars Christmas Market returns on December 6-7

Blackfriars Christmas Market

Blackfriars Christmas Market will return to Newcastle on Saturday December 6 and Sunday December 7.

Last year the event drew more than 6,000 visitors – and the 2025 market will double in size, expanding across the Cloister Garden and Banquet Hall at Blackfriars. For the first time, visitors can also enjoy a ticketed Santa’s Grotto in the King’s Suite – featuring festive crafts, creative activities, and a visit with Santa.

The expanded market – which will be open 10am-4pm on both days – will feature twice as many local traders and producers from across the North East – offering everything from artisan food and drink to handmade gifts and sustainable homeware. Confirmed participants include St Dominic’s Brewery, Ad Gefrin Distillery, Bird & Blend Tea Co, Little Twin Bakery, Tropics Skincare, The Black Bee Rum Company, and Craft Queens among many others. Live music from the Ryton Choir will also fill the Cloister Garden with traditional carols throughout the weekend.

Visitors can also enjoy festive streetfood from Blackfriars – including giant pigs in blankets in toasted brioche rolls and spit-roasted turkey stotties with pork, sage and cranberry stuffing. There will also be sweet treats such as apple crumble pots with brandy custard alongside mulled wine, sloe gin and hot chocolate.

Andy Hook, managing director of Blackfriars, said: “We were blown away by the success of last year’s market and the enthusiasm of everyone who came along. The response from local traders and visitors has been incredible, so it felt only right to bring it back — and make it even bigger. This year’s market celebrates everything we love about the North East at Christmas, including local craftsmanship, great food and drink, and a warm community spirit in one of Newcastle’s most historic settings.”
