There is a lot going on in the North East right now – new residencies, clever collaborations and exciting food concepts – so if you needed some new spots to try this spring, I’ve got you covered.
One of the region’s most talked about restaurants – Hjem – is doing a six-month residency at South Causey Inn while the team continues work on their new permanent home, Freyja.
After six years of Michelin-starred success in Northumberland – and a brilliant pop-up stint inside Fenwick in Newcastle – the team has taken over the kitchen in the newly refurbished farmhouse, and it couldn’t be a more fitting spot for them. We loved the taster menu and the wine pairings – and the menu was packed with local ingredients and creativity.
As well as the carefully curated tasting menu, the team is offering delicious à la carte dishes and Sunday roasts. Paired with the cosy, fire-lit charm of South Causey Inn, it has got destination dining written all over it.
When it comes to finding the top spots in the North East, Triple A Food Tours is second to none. The team has added an exciting new tour to the already packed schedule, and this one if perfect for the Beer and Bait lovers.
Expect the best bar snacks in town, brewery tours, and – of course – plenty of beers to sample at some of Newcastle’s most famous pubs. There is some fascinating history thrown in too – which we were still talking about weeks later – thanks to brilliant tour guide Lee.
Finally, Jesmond has a new laid-back lunch spot – Lita.
Positioned on the cusp of Jesmond Dene, the sandwiches here have been taking social media by storm, and the little spot has drawn a lot of attention for good reason. A continental European-style café serving beers, wines, sweet treats and North Shore Coffee, it’s a must-visit.
