Valentine’s Day at home with top North East restaurants and producers

The Northumberland Arms at Felton, the Blackbird in Ponteland, and Jesmond bakery Kennedy and Rhind have launched Valentine’s Day in a box to help couples celebrate at home.

The boxes, a collaboration between chefs at all three venues, include a luxury three course meal which is fully prepared and ready for diners to heat at home.

To start, couples can enjoy Murray’s tear and share camembert ring, followed by twice baked cheese and spinach souffles. For the main course, there’s a choice between beef wellington with a red wine jus or oyster mushroom wellington with a Madeira jus, served with boulangère potatoes, honey roasted carrots and butter braised cabbage.

To finish, the box includes is a sharing platter of three desserts and chocolate truffles, with an optional cheese course for an additional £10, which includes local cheese, homemade fruitcake, spiced plum chutney and artisan crackers.

Stuart Young of the Northumberland Pub Company, which operates the Blackbird and The Northumberland Arms, is confident the boxes deliver a restaurant quality experience at home.

“Valentine’s Day is a huge event for the hospitality industry and while our doors are closed to diners, we still wanted to help our customers celebrate the occasion at home,” said Stuart. “Chefs at all three venues have come together to create a really indulgent three course menu, which ticks all the boxes to create a romantic evening in on February 14.”

The boxes cost £50 for two people and can be collected on February 13 or 14. They can be ordered to collect at any of the three venues by visiting the Kennedy and Rhind ordering section at the relevant site – https://www.northumberlandarms-felton.co.uk/,https://www.theblackbirdponteland.co.uk/ or https://kennedyandrhind.co.uk/
