The team at Turnbull’s in Alnwick has been working hard to create a range of dishes to mark the coronation of King Charles III in style.
Saturday’s event will be the sixth coronation the family business has celebrated in its 143-year history, and the occasion has inspired the butchery and bakery teams to come up with a selection of dishes to suit all tastes and parties.
The butchery team’s selections include The Coronation Wellington – created by butchers Dan and Alex at a recent competition and inspired by King Charles’ love of lamb and wild mushrooms with lamb fillet, wild mushrooms and mushroom sauce encased in puff pastry and coasted in a Royal Mint & Rosemary marinade. There’s also The Coronation Chicken Crown – a double stack of tandoori chicken burgers with onion bhajis and Habanero jam; and The Coronation Truffle – minced chicken seasoned and formed into a truffle that is then filled with tikka sauce, cherry tomatoes and red onion before being finished with sultanas. You’ll also find Lamb Kleftiko, a Mediterranean lamb shoulder dish, and a special Coronation Sausage infused with curried spices and packed with raisins in the butchers’ counter.
The bakery team has been equally hard at work, creating a Coronation Chicken Pie – produced by baker Phil and featuring a creamy sauce infused with spices and mango chutney; and a Turnbull’s take on the official Coronation Quiche featuring broad beans, spinach, mature cheddar cheese and tarragon.
Check out the full range and lots more ahead of the weekend in-store at Turnbull’s Northumbrian Food Hall and Turnbull’s Family Butchers.
