Lots to look forward to in the last week of Sunderland Food and Drink Festival

The fourth and final week of the Sunderland Food and Drink Festival, which starts Monday June 21, will showcase the city’s restaurants and explore everything from beer to brownies.

For the past three weeks, The Sunderland Food and Drink Fest, organised by Sunderland BID and Sunderland City Council, has brought food lovers a packed programme of virtual demos and masterclasses. The final week of events begins with wild food and botanicals expert Alysia Vasey bringing her expertise to a dinner event at Sunderland’s newest restaurant, Undisclosed. Chefs will incorporate her foraged ingredients into the menu for the evening and Alysia – whose tv credits include Countryfile and James Martin’s Saturday Kitchen – will then give a talk about the skills which have led her to work with Michelin-starred chefs across the UK.

Proceedings take a virtual turn at 4pm on Monday with a Chemistry Cocktail Demo by Big Science UK who will be putting sweets, pop and more sweets under the microscope.

On Tuesday at 4pm, sweets give way to a smoothie demonstration and, at 6pm, crafting experts from Sunderland’s Katie’s Garden, will be showing how to transform trash into treasure by upcycling old jars into decorative storage pots.

At 11am, on Wednesday, Change 4 Life will be holding a Healthy Smoothie Demo and, at 5pm, Big Science UK returns with a Big Science Sherbet Demo.

Roker’s Fausto Coffee will be showing how to make a perfect, freshly squeezed, raspberry lemonade at home on Thursday at 6pm.

And, from pips to pints, Friday viewers will be able to learn how to make their own beer with a demonstration at 7pm by Houghton-le-Spring’s Maxim Brewery.

The weekend gets off to a sweet start on Saturday at 10am when The Great British Bake Off 2019 finalist Alice Fevronia returns with a Chocolate Brownie Milkshake Demo.

Then newly opened Sunderland restaurant Spent Grain will be opening its doors to diners for a special evening menu before experts from ARTventurers bring the festival to a close on Sunday June 27, at 11am, with a demo on how to turn salt dough donuts into home decorations.

All virtual events will be streamed at www.facebook.com/sundfooddrinkfest
