North Tyneside’s newest fish and chip takeaway and ice cream parlour have officially opened – as The Inn Collection Group launched Oswin’s and Cones at The Tynemouth Castle Inn.
Part of the multi-million-pound renovation project that saw the pub and bedrooms launch with a bang at the start of November, the new venues offer traditional seaside treats just a stone’s throw from the Longsands beach.
Named after the ancient King of Northumbria, Oswin’s is home to sustainably sourced fish cooked in either beef dripping or sunflower oil to allow the shop to cater for all tastes. Staples like cod and haddock landed in North Shields will be served alongside the ever-reliable battered sausage, haggis and more. Extra special treats on the menu include Oswin’s Crispy Mix – featuring cod, king prawns and squid – as well as monkfish scampi. Visitors can also enjoy homemade tartare sauce, curry and gravy as well as a secret recipe Oswin’s sauce.
Next door, Cones ice cream parlour fits in perfectly with the art-deco feel of The Tynemouth Castle Inn. Offering more than 20 flavours of gelato made fresh on the premises, Cones is home to a dazzling array of flavours along with a range of unlimited toppings to customise every order. You’ll also find a range of hot drinks and affogatos on the menu.
Cones is open 10am-6pm daily, with Oswin’s open noon-8pm daily.
