Newcastle’s Mother Mercy named a Great Place To Work

Newcastle cocktail bar operator Mother Mercy has been awarded Great Place To Work UK certification.

The brand’s first bar on Newcastle’s Cloth Market was launched in 2019, and the team has opened two more venues – in Fenwick and on Grey Street – in the last five years.

Earning the certification follows a string of awards and recognition for the venues, including being recognised among the top-50 cocktail bars in the UK, and being named one of the top-20 cocktail bars in the UK by The Times.

“We are honoured and thrilled to be recognised as a Great Place To Work,” said co-founder Neil Donachie. “At Mother Mercy, our main focus has always been to provide exceptional service paired with outstanding drinks, and we firmly believe that a key ingredient to achieving this lies in the happiness and well-being of our staff. Our team is at the forefront of everything we do, and their involvement in decision-making processes is crucial as they are the ones who interact directly with our customers.

“This award is a testament to our commitment to creating a positive and inclusive work environment where all our staff can thrive. We are incredibly proud of this recognition and look forward to continuing our journey with the amazing team that makes Mother Mercy a truly special place.”

Great Place To Work certification is a two-step process that includes an anonymous survey for employees about workplace practices. The thorough evaluation allows employees to freely express their opinions, highlighting areas where they feel supported and identifying opportunities for improvement. Achieving the certification reflects a commitment to fostering a positive work environment and actively listening to the needs and feedback of teams.
