NE1 Ltd has extended August’s Newcastle Restaurant Week for a second week.
In response to calls from businesses and the public, NE1 has worked with the city’s restaurant community to extend the event until Sunday August 18.
The decision was reached in light of events in the city last week which impacted heavily on the hospitality industry. A total of 62 of the 108 original participants have agreed to take part in the extra week, and will be offering fixed-price menus of £15, £20 or £25 per person.
This is only the second time the event has been extended in its 13-year history – with the first time coming in January 2013 when extreme weather conditions and heavy snow blocked roads and transport routes into the city.
Stephen Patterson, chief executive of NE1 Ltd, said: “Many of our restaurants reported a significant drop in business from Wednesday last week when the threat of protests kept people away from the city. Thankfully, Newcastle has shown that there is more that unites than divides us. Fittingly, our NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week theme this year is Eat the World, which beautifully represents the diversity of our great city and its restaurant community. We are delighted that so many of the city’s restaurants have agreed to extend their restaurant week offers, providing the opportunity for diners who missed out last week to take advantage of all this great city has to offer.”
