New lease of life for Delaval Arms

The Delaval Arms at Old Hartley, near Whitley Bay has been given a new lease of life after being taken over by the Bartlett family.

The pub, which can trace its roots back to the 1700s, has been given a cosmetic transformation, which pays homage to the venue’s long history. The team has also added an outdoor terrace, function rooms and a new food offering created by executive chef David Blackhall at the pub – which is also home to the King Aelle Brew Co brewery.

The new look is down to operations director, Simon Bartlett (pictured), who has a background in the design and creation of top hospitality outlets around the country. “It has been amazing after years of working on designs for other operators to be able to do it for ourselves,” said Simon. “We are in such a fantastic spot; so close to the sea, on the coast and castles route, and near to St Mary’s Lighthouse and popular surfing spots. The response we’ve had so far has been incredibly positive and we are looking forward to being able to show even more visitors what we’ve done.”
