Great Taste 2021 recognises the world’s finest food and drink

From Somerset to Seoul, Bordeaux to Bratislava, and across our region – 5,383 food and drink products from every corner of the globe feature on this year’s list of Great Taste one-, two- and three-star award-winners.

Di Meo’s Ice Cream led the way for our region with six awards, including a three-star rating for its 100% Pure Bronte Pistachio Gelato. The Whitley Bay-based business also picked up a two-star award for its Mascarpone and Amarena Cherry Gelato along with four one-star awards.

Northumbrian Pantry picked up a two-star award for its Hannah Glasse’s Paco Lilla as well as a one-star rating for its Spiced Beetroot and Apple Chutney & Blackcurrant Jam with Juniper.

There was also a three-star rating – awarded to less than 2% of the products tasted – for Travelling Bee Company’s Scottish Heather Honeycomb Section, and Burtree Puddings’ Sticky Toffee Pudding & Sticky Toffee Sauce.

Two-star honours also went to Teesdale Cheesemakers’ Ronnie, Travelling Bee Company’s Scottish Heather Honey, Estate Tea Co’s Kukicha Sencha, and TA Belle & Herbs Farm’s Yellow Kraut.

Meanwhile, a Chian Tangerine Spread made in Tavros Attica, Greece; a raw stingless bee honey harvested in Singapore; and a lobster and crab-flavoured butter created in Twickenham are also among this year’s must-try products.

Following 86 judging days in London and Dorset, Great Taste’s judges selected the very finest food and drink from across the world. Regardless of branding or packaging, each product is judged on a level playing field according to its texture, appearance, composition, and taste. Food critics, chefs, restaurateurs, retail buyers, cooks, producers and a host of food writers, journalists and social media influencers are among the 355 judges who tasted 14,113 entries from 108 countries.

Every Great Taste award-winning product will now be able to display the black and gold logo while all Great Taste three-star award-winning products will be re-judged to find this year’s regional Golden Fork Trophy winners and the Great Taste Supreme Champion 2021. These results will be announced at the Great Taste Golden Fork Reception in October.
