Dabbawal launches unique take on the traditional Sunday roast

The first Indian Sunday lunch of its kind in the North East has arrived at Dabbawal.

The team at the Newcastle-based Indian street food pioneer has shaken up the traditional British roast with their signature flair. Now served every Sunday at Dabbawal in Jesmond, this one-of-a-kind feast merges British comfort food with the soul-stirring flavours of Indian homecooking.

“We saw an opportunity to give the Sunday roast a Dabbawal twist,” said owner Jaf Ali. “After months of fine-tuning, we’ve landed on something special, and the response so far has been incredible. Head chef Asif and the team have worked hard to balance the key elements of a classic roast with our signature street food touch, bringing something new and exciting to Jesmond locals, as well as Newcastle’s wider dining scene.”

The Dabbawal touch lies in the cooking methods and subtle spicing – with charred, smoky meats roasted deep inside the charcoal tandoor and paired with golden saffron mash and a punchy Rogan Josh gravy, which is perfect for dunking gunpowder roasties.

Exclusively available at Dabbawal in Jesmond, this special menu complements the venue’s leafy, suburban charm. The Dabba Sunday Roast is available every Sunday noon-4.30 pm.
