Celebrate National Stottie Week 10-16 August

Scotty the Stottie

Big River Bakery’s National Stottie Week moves to a new summer date this year, taking place from Monday 10-Sunday 16 August.

Celebrating the humble flat-bottomed stottie cake in all its glory, the week-long celebration will include the Great Digital Stottie Trail, a free family-friendly stottie hunt across Newcastle and Gateshead which visits some of the area’s best-known cultural, historic and community venues (with a bonus point at Si King’s PROPA at Sheepfolds Pen, Sunderland).

The trail follows the adventures of Scotty and Dotty the Stotties, who have accidentally lost 20 mischievous Mini Stotties across Newcastle and Gateshead, and children throughout the North East are being called upon to help find them to save Stottie Week. The trail is accessed through a free app called letsARgo (downloaded via QR codes).

Aside from the trail, there’s more family-friendly activities including a stottie walk, stottie throwing at Big River Bakery, a picnic at BALTIC and storytelling sessions at Hopscotch Cafe, and you can expect to see Scotty the Stottie making an appearance at venues across Newcastle and Gateshead.
