Winter essentials

Lindsay Bros platter

With the festive season fast approaching as I write, I thought I’d share some of my new top spots – plus some old favourites – for the months ahead.

The Grainger Market has seen huge improvements in its food scene in the last couple of years – and with the new renovations it’s a real hospitality hot spot.

My favourite addition so far is the takeout fish counter from Lindsay Bros (pictured below). From mini fruits de mer trays to kipper stotties, it’s a must-visit for seafood on the go.

Meanwhile, Horticulture has a new home! After opening its doors on Market Lane five years ago, this fabulous food and cocktail venue has gone from strength to strength and now has a sister spot in Whitley Bay. The new venue has the same expansive espresso martini menu (the biggest in the UK don’t you know!) and you’ll find awesome food with a coastal twist here too. Go for small plates, cocktails and celebrations or a delicious weekend brunch – and keep an eye on their socials for news on their Sunday roasts.

Finally, Victor Indigo November (VIN) in Gateshead Railway Quarter is the ideal spot for post-Christmas shopping catchups. Charlotte and Lorrie are always on-hand to share their fantastic wine knowledge, and they’ll help you discover exciting new favourites on every visit. They also serve delicious charcuterie, making this the perfect place to get your cheese and wine fix this winter.
