We’ve been to: Hadrian’s Hotel, Wall

By Linda Lee

Hadrian's Hotel

By chance, our visit to Hadrian’s Hotel in Wall coincided with Hexham & Tynedale Restaurant Week, so we sat in the pub and dined from the menu in there rather than the restaurant one.

My partner had pork loin with pommes anna, puréed parsnips and creamed leeks. His only criticism was that he could have eaten more! My chowder with pan-fried trout topped with a breaded scallop served on a bed of samphire with new potatoes was delicious. It paired perfectly with an English Chardonnay from Sussex, which I couldn’t resist for its bonkers name. Bonkers Zombie Robot Alien Monsters From The Future Ate My Brain (Sur Lie) from Sugrue had only been delivered that day, just in time for Halloween!

For pudding, I chose treacle tart with clotted cream ice cream, which was divine, though sadly my partner’s lemon posset was too sweet, despite being served with blackberries.
