We’ve had an epic start to 2025 in the North East, with exciting new openings and fresh menus bringing us awesome dining experiences.
Durham’s Isla, from the talented team behind Coarse, is at the top of my list for a must-visit this year. Located near the station, the menu is full of expertly crafted small plates. Our highlights included scallops with chicken butter and 12-hour slow-cooked beef, and the Oreo torte. The poached pear French toast is also a must-try and certainly worth the hype. Paired with an awesome wine and cocktail list, Isla is perfect for a delicious date night in Durham.
Are you a foodie and a film fanatic? After a fantastic start at Alfie’s bar, EatFlix Cinema has found a new home on Chillingham Road. The unique 5D immersive dining experience has levelled up – and not just with their beautiful new venue. Their opening Ratatouille screening had me hooked with a nod to French fine dining. Each course matched on-screen moments, along with perfectly timed drink pairings. They’ve released dates for Matilda and Pulp Fiction screenings as I write, and when you see new announcements be quick to book as they fill up fast!
I love Fenwick for its passion for local business and I was thrilled to see the pop-up by East Boldon’s Black Corner. Specialising in farmhouse cheese and British charcuterie, their spot inside the Food Hall offers a delicious selection of fresh dishes paired with high-quality organic wines.
Whether you’re craving a refined date night, an immersive movie-meal experience, or a casual glass of wine with small plates, each of these spots will not disappoint!
