Sandy Higson, AKA The Mad Jam Woman, continued her success at The Dalemain World Marmalade Artisan Awards this year.
Amble-based Sandy picked up a Double Gold for her Lemon, Lime & Grapefruit Marmalade with Samphire, Chilli, Ginger & Cumin.
She also won two Silver Awards – for her Lime Marmalade with Tarragon & Black Pepper, and Orange Marmalade with Red Onion & Smoked Garlic. There was also a Bronze Award for her Seville Orange Marmalade with Chocolate, Ginger & Chilli – and a Merit for her Lemon Marmalade with Fennel & Tarragon.
The 2026 Artisan Awards received more than 3,400 entries from 33 countries – including La Reunion, the island of Elba, Greece, Gibraltar, South Africa, Portugal, and Taiwan. The jars were judged by an expert panel including the chair of Tourism Ireland, Chris Brooke; food buyer for Tebay, Gloucester and Cairn Lodge Services, Alex Evans; food historian Ivan Day; the owner of the Ave Maria Organic Orange Grove in Seville, Jose Fraga; and Fortnum & Mason grocery buyer Syrie Gwyn Palmer.
