Restaurant Pine launches BiteBack charity fundraiser

The Michelin-starred team behind Northumberland’s Restaurant Pine is joining forces with some of the UK’s best chefs for a charity fundraiser in aid of Cancer Research UK.

A group of 15 Michelin-starred chefs will come together to raise funds through BiteBack, which will take place on June 9 at Wylam Brewery in Newcastle.

The event has been designed to take each chef out of their regular kitchen environment, and will see them wow paying guests with unique takes on street food dishes.

Each dish will provide guests with a different insight into the acclaimed chefs’ styles. With only 500 portions of each dish available on the day, diners will need to be quick to be in with a chance of securing their chosen dishes.

The event will be free to enter and dish tokens can be purchased on the day for just £6. Guests can keep up to date on the event by following the announcements on Restaurant Pine’s website https://www.restaurantpine.co.uk/events/ and Instagram @biteback_fest

The first two chefs have already been announced – Pine head chef Ian Waller, who chose this year’s charity, and Tom Shepherd, owner of Restaurant Upstairs in Lichfield and winner of the main course on Great British Menu 2023 with Desperate Dan’s Cow Pie.

As well as a stellar chef line up and the usual drinks offering from Wylam Brewery, there will be DJs and local celebrities on-hand to host a special live auction, which will see some amazing foodie experiences up for grabs.

All proceeds from BiteBack will be donated to Cancer Research UK to support more than 4,000 researchers, clinicians and nurses to transform how they help prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, bringing hope to millions of people now and in the future.

Nicky McKenna, Cancer Research UK’s relationship manager for North East England & Cumbria, said: “Restaurant Pine is helping to accelerate the progress of Cancer Research UK, to make new, life-saving discoveries, through their exciting BiteBack For Cancer Research UK initiative. These discoveries will benefit our partners, children, friends and colleagues. The funds raised over the coming year will help to create a world where everybody can live longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer. The team at Restaurant Pine, is demonstrating through its passion and commitment a true understanding that it is together we are beating cancer. On behalf of Cancer Research UK, I’d like to sincerely thank everyone at Restaurant Pine for their dedicated support of our charity and our loved ones.”

Siân Byerley, co-owner of Pine, said: “We came up with the concept of BiteBack in 2023 to help raise funds for early diagnosis research. The idea of the festival is to bring a sense of togetherness to the North East, and what better way to do that than with exceptional food, great entertainment, and for the purpose to fundraise for such a deserved charity. We all know someone who has been impacted by this illness, which is one of the reasons why we think it’s vital to help Cancer Research UK in their battle. Please come and join us and buy lots of tokens on the day!

“We’re incredibly grateful to the 15 chefs who’ve so generously volunteered their time. We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Wylam Brewery for so generously providing the venue. We’d also like to thank the various sponsors who are providing fridges, generators, and all manner of equipment needed to ensure the event runs smoothly.”
