Container venue Hwkrland is giving drinkers the chance to play the stock market – with drinks instead of pounds – in a new game.
The Wolf of HWKR Street is an interactive happy hour concept at Hwkrland – the street food market, drinks venue and entertainment container park beneath the Tyne Bridge on the Gateshead Quayside – which is open Thursday to Sunday and on Bank Holiday Mondays.
The new game will run every Thursday night at the venue, giving customers the chance to save money while pitting their wits against a virtual stock exchange. The game works by connecting bar prices to a stock market on a big screen – with prices fluctuating as drinks rise and fall in popularity, and crashing during the night.
Mike Hesketh – co-owner of EVNT Inspirations, which runs the venue – said: “It’s a great way for people test their skills with the game, save themselves money, and have a great night.”
Since Hwkrland – which is free to enter – opened at Easter, tens of thousands of people have visited to try more than15 draught beers, stouts and ciders and sample street food from vendors including Meat:Stack, Dabbawal, Acropolis, Circo, Smoke and Sear, and Parmorama.
“Demand has been high every single night since we opened, so we thought it would be a good idea to ramp up the fun even further,” added Mike. “Everyone likes a game of chance, and this offers exactly that. Only by following it carefully will you be able to work out the best time – and best price – to buy at.”
