A programme full of tasty treats, delicious dishes and clever cooks is on the menu for June’s Sunderland Food and Drink Fest.
The Sunderland Food and Drink Fest, organised by Sunderland BID and Sunderland City Council, has put together a packed programme of virtual events throughout June.
And with celebrity chefs Jean-Christophe Novelli, Rustie Lee and Alice Fevronia joining more than 50 local businesses taking part, foodies can learn everything from how to brew beer to cooking up a storm with cupboard staples.
From June 1-6, you can enjoy demos from School Meals and Change 4 Life, which will be hosting sessions throughout the month. Sunderland-based Fat Loss Feast’s Joe Sexton, who is a personal trainer and also streams healthy cooking videos, will be making a nutritious alternative to a fry up breakfast and little ones can join in the fun with a DIY flatbread demo from Big Science UK. There will also be two opportunities to see TV chef Rustie Lee in action across the weekend, with demos on her Caribbean corned beef and rice or chicken in pineapple, and Nedhi Chera, of The Funky Indian Wali, will also be creating some authentic Indian vegetarian dishes.
In week two, which runs from 7-13 June, the highlight will be a number of virtual sessions with celebrity chef Jean Christophe Novelli, who was a huge hit when he appeared at the very first festival in 2019. He will be carrying out live demos and Q&A sessions on June 12 & 13, which are free to take part in by registering on the event website.
A jam packed week also includes demonstrations covering everything from pizza to mince and dumplings to quiche and vegan burgers. Virtual sessions are being delivered by The Ivy House, The Village Pantry and Foodie Geek Trish, along with the city’s School Meals service and Change 4 Life, which will be dishing up easy to make, healthy options. Youngsters are also well catered for with Katie’s Garden showing online how to make a sponge afternoon tea playset on Monday and Big Science UK sharing the creation of Colour Changing Unicorn Noodles the following day. And ARTventures are also getting on the act on Sunday, when they will be making spaghetti and marshmallow towers.
Other local businesses taking part across the festival include The Ivy House, Blackberries Patisserie, Undisclosed, Fausto Coffee, Maxim Brewery and Spent Grain.
