Celebrate the spookiest time of year with Mariachi and margaritas

Motel Mexicana

The scariest time of year is being celebrated in full Mexican style at Newcastle’s Motel Mexicana.

The Mosley Street venue is gearing up for a whole host of events ahead of the Day of the Dead, culminating in a party with one of the UK’s top Mariachi bands.

The Halloween programme kicks off on Saturday October 26 with bottomless brunch from 3.30-5pm. Along with endless drinks, the brunch includes loaded nachos and tacos along with a DJ, music and games with prizes for the winners.

The celebrations continue on Halloween (October 31) when the weekly Gringo’s Bingo will have a distinctly spooky theme.

Those two events will set the scene for the El Dia De Los Meurtos – Day of the Dead – themed party on November 2, which will be headlined by The Doritos Mariachi band.

The band – who have supported stars from Rod Stewart to Michael Bublé and have featured on the Doritos TV adverts – will return to Motel Mexicana for the party, which will also include a free frozen margarita on arrival for all guests. To book a ticket, email hello@motelmexicana.co.uk

“The Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico are recognised worldwide and we are going to be recreating the magic of that event here in Newcastle,” said co-owner Matt Smyth. “We are delighted to be bringing back the Doritos Mariachi band, one of the top bands of their kind in the country and one loved by everyone who saw them the last time they were at Motel Mexicana. We’re looking forward to a week packed with excitement, fun and a really authentic take on what is an iconic time of year.”
