Brocksbushes breaks ground on new farm shop

A huge redevelopment is underway at Brocksbushes Farm, just outside Corbridge, as groundworks begin for a new, larger Farm Shop & Café, and a dedicated Play Barn for children.

The business, which started as a tiny pick your own fruit farm open eight weeks of the year, has continued to grow throughout its 40-year history and is now entering an exciting new phase following years of planning.

“We knew a few years ago that we would grow out of our existing buildings, which sadly will not withstand any extensions,” said Harry Dickinson, whose family owns and runs the business. “We have been working since 2017 to develop what the future of Brocksbushes will look like and we are really excited to finally start work. This brand-new home will allow us to expand our year-round offer, but the ethos on which Brocksbushes is built will stay the same – shop, eat and pick local.

“As a 40-year-old family-run business, we are passionate about creating a sustainable, future-proof business and want to honour our heritage. The new building will incorporate the best aspects of the past 40 years, while giving our loyal customers a considerable upgrade to their shopping and dining experience, and proper all year-round activities for young families.”

The positive impact of the new development will be felt not only by Brocksbushes, but also their wide network of local suppliers. Chris Jewitt, founder and CEO of Food and Drink North East (FADNE), said “We are thrilled that Brocksbushes has begun work on their new farm shop. This development will help improve the connection between our region’s diverse network of producers and the growing number of customers who are hungry for more sustainable, locally sourced food and drink. We can’t wait to visit!”

The development is expected to reach completion in spring/summer 2024 and until then, it will be business as usual, with visitors able to see the progress of the new building, which is situated behind the current shop and tea room.
