Battle of the Burger to celebrate 10th birthday this Easter

The Battle of the Burger event will celebrate its 10th anniversary this Easter at Wylam Brewery in Newcastle – and at new venues in Manchester and Leeds.

With top names from around the region competing for the title once again, this year’s Newcastle battle will take place April 18-19. The Manchester event, at Track Brewing, will take place on the same dates – with the Leeds event, at the Northern Monk Refectory, taking place over three days on April 18-20.

Having started out in 2015 as a small gathering of burger lovers and industry friends in Newcastle, the event has evolved into a major food festival attracting 25 burger vendors. The flagship Newcastle event remains at the heart of the action, with the two new venues adding to the competition this year.

“It feels like we say it every year, but this truly is our most ambitious campaign to-date, and we’ve never had more eyes on the brand. The people have really adopted these events – they don’t even feel like ours anymore,” said event organiser Danny Hughes. “It was the right time to explore other cities, once we found the right partners, and we couldn’t have hoped for better than Track Brewing and Northern Monk.”

The events will see operators serve up their best burgers (£5 per portion) with the winners determined in three ways – volume, public vote and guest judge feedback. Three titles are up for grabs – Winner, People’s Choice, and Judge’s Rosette.

The Food Battles are vibrant weekend street food festivals which champion a particular cuisine and invite the best restaurants, pop ups, and chefs to compete in friendly competition. The events are dog-friendly, family events where everyone is welcome. Other events in the series include Slice Wars, the Mexican StandOff, Lord of the Wings, and the Argie Bhaji.
