Barrio Comida wins northern title at Food Awards England

Durham taqueria Barrio Comida has been named Best Mexican Establishment in the North by Food Awards England.

The annual awards recognise and reward the talent and hard work of the English food industry, highlighting the best restaurants, takeaways, pubs, cafés and producers. Each year the winners are selected based on votes from the public, who nominated their favourite establishments across various categories, including Restaurant of the Year, Gastro Pub of the Year, Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year, and Best Street Food.

Barrio Comida’s Shaun Hurrell said: “Winning this award was totally unexpected, but it demonstrates that the eating public enjoy what we do. It’s also a really big pat on the back for me and the whole team, recognising our hard work and passion for the food we create and serve to our guests.”

A spokesperson for Food Awards England said: “We received an overwhelming response from the public, who nominated some fantastic establishments across the country. These awards are a testament to the passion and dedication of the country’s food industry, and the hard work of those who provide exceptional culinary experiences to their customers. The winners should be proud of their achievement as they represent the very best of England’s food scene and are a true reflection of the quality and diversity of the industry. Congratulations to all the winners and finalists, who have demonstrated excellence in their respective categories.”
