A gin revolution

Planet Juniper, the festival series which celebrates the world of gin, lands in Durham in June.

Backed by Appetite, our sister titles Cheers and The Northumbrian, and the folks at Relish Publications, the festival at Durham cricket’s Emirates Riverside ground in Chester-le-Street on June 16-18 will feature numerous gins, including from home grown favourites Lakes Distillery, Durham Distillery, and
Poetic License.

Food will also be on offer from Sachins Restaurant, Newcastle, Scream for Pizza, and The Little Fishy, and there will be live music to accompany festival goers’ journeys into more than 70 gins.

Festival director Mark Carton says: “The last decade has seen a crop of outstanding new gin distilleries grow in the North East. From Hepple Gin in Rothbury to Masons Gin in Bedale, we have an amazing array of talent and quality in the region.”

With almost 75% of a traditional gin and tonic being the tonic, Fever Tree will also be on site with tonic water, ginger ale, elderflower, and Sicilian lemonade – all of it free for festival goers.
