Region’s best listed among world’s top restaurants in La Liste

Some of the region’s best restaurants have been included in La Liste 2026 alongside top venues across the world.

The 10th anniversary edition of La Liste, which showcases the top 1,000 restaurants across 200 countries worldwide, includes Restaurant Pine, Solstice, House of Tides, and Hjem.

A total of 83 UK restaurants are included in the latest list.

Pine received a score of 86 out of 100, placing it 36th in the UK and top in the North East.

Meanwhile, Kenny Atkinson’s Solstice entered the list for the first time with a score of 83/100. The Michelin-starred restaurant, opened in 2022, is led by head chef Scott Hodgson.

Kenny’s flagship venue, House of Tides, his first restaurant in Newcastle and also Michelin-starred, celebrated its third consecutive year on the list, achieving a score of 82.5/100.

Hjem, which will close its doors at the end of this year ahead of the launch of new restaurant Freyja, scored 81/100.

Founded in 2015 with a single list of 1,000 restaurants, La Liste has grown to cover 200 countries and now also publishes an annual ranking of the world’s top 1,000 hotels. Its scoring system is based on a rigorous aggregation of reviews, guidebooks, national and regional media, and trusted digital platforms including customer review sites.

For its 10th anniversary edition, La Liste assessed more than 33,000 restaurants worldwide, drawing on over 1,150 international sources before curating its final selection of outstanding global dining destinations.

In addition to unveiling the top 1,000 restaurants, La Liste also presented 14 special awards celebrating diversity, excellence, creativity, commitment, courage and the industry’s capacity for reinvention – recognising 37 winners from 20 countries.

Ian Waller, head chef at Pine, said: “It’s a real honour to feature among the 83 UK restaurants in La Liste 2026. Being assessed against restaurants from around the world, and those closer to home that we respect and admire, is incredible, especially being included for the third consecutive year. Listings like this recognise what we strive to deliver for our guests, and we couldn’t be prouder of everyone who helps make Pine a success. Thank you to all involved.”

Kenny, chef-owner of Solstice and House of Tides, said: “Both teams are over the moon. For Solstice to be listed for the very first time is great news for Scott and his team, and deserved recognition for what they’ve been doing. For the team at House of Tides to be featured for the third year is amazing and a testament to their hard work week in, week out.

“The North East as a whole has come on leaps and bounds from a restaurant point of view in recent years, and it’s amazing to be part of what has rapidly become a real foodie destination. To have nine of the UK’s 83 listed restaurants in the region shows just how much is happening locally. Chefs have long recognised the quality of the produce available here, and they’re voting with their feet and coming home, and that’s great to be part of.”
